Internet Filtering

Internet filtering was covered in the last class which was interesting since it is a form of censorship.  The filter is software loaded onto the computer.

It is the controlling or supression of the publishing of information on the internet.  From preventing something from being viewed you are censoring it.  It does in a way defeat the purpse of a library which is to provide information.  Just because someone or company feels that certain information should not be made public does not give them the right to withhold it, but that is exactly what is being done through the use of internet filters.  For censorship to happen you must have a body of people who who make decisons about what must be censored.  They decide based on a certain criteria why certain information must be censored.  Many books were banned in the past, they were burnt, that was a form of censorship, information was not merely withheld it was completely destroyed.  Governments often use censorship as a means of covering up actions they know people will not agree with.

Internet filters are also installed in computers to prevent children from viewing inappropriate information.  They often find a way to to access the very information they are trying to be protected from.  The best way to protect them would therefore be to educate them from that wich they are being prevented from accessing. You can download free internet filtering software from the following websites

Trying to work logically

It has been a week since I have last posted anything, but I have decided to work logically.
I will post chronogically the subjects covered in each class.
This will be a form of revision for me to recap the important points of each lesson.
We began the class with a discussion of Web 2.0 .  The important point to remember is that
the internet has evolved into an interactive social platform where information  is not only
read.  Information can now also be added to, and in this way it has opened up an entire new platform
where people can read as well as share new information.

Widgets and Gadgets

Today I have managed to add a few widgets, but it seems a lot easier in class.

Widgets and Gadgets are added to blogs and social websites in order to make them
more interesting, colourful and fun.

Some interesting ideas for gadgets can be found at the following website.

So I checked and my picture was not there,
so I'll be off to attempt it one more time.

Tried commenting on my fellow students' posts
and am hoping that they have received the comments
from me I had sent yesterday.

I am so happy with uploading my first image!!!
Yay!! I finally managed to add some colour to my blog, Our first Assignment for LBS 708 ICT Application had to be handed in today.  We did not hand in the hard copy but sent it via the Ikamva website, resulting in the course feeling like it really is completely online.

Getting to know your blog

hello

You might think that a person would know the difference between
a new blog and a new post, but only now am I 100% sure about the
difference, I just cannot imagine a person posting a new blog very often!!!
It is time consuming keeping one going, especially if your server is extremely slow.

If I am finding this a bit of a challenge, how will I manage the hyperlink?

I have checked out the following websites.
